Transport Festival 2008

The 1st Middlewich Transport Festival 19th/20th July 2008

(Event Organiser Dave Thompson)

`It was a resounding success- despite the weather!!!

I was very encouraged by the support and must thank Congleton Bear Town Classic Car Club AND King Motor Cycle Club of Middlewich for their support- the event simply would not have taken place without them.

MANY THANKS also to the souvenir guide sponsors- Trevor Farrington Ltd, Middlewich Auto`s, and the Middlewich Rail-Link Campaign`.

On Saturday "Haurel & Lardy" provided lots of fun and photo opportunities with their excellent repartee, and their original Model T Ford.

Sunday was definitely the busier day with more cars and bikes attending.

2 local exhibitors were awarded prizes for their exhibits- on Saturday Mark Edwards` from Town Bridge Motors won best overall exhibit with his Triumph TR6.
On Sunday a US Army Truck which featured in the film Saving Private Ryan and owned by Middlewich businessman John Mcalinden, also won first prize.

The event was free to attend and exhibit, with all donations going to the mayors charity, St. Luke`s Hospice.

Funding to cover all costs was provided by Middlewich Town Council.

A total of £559.30 was raised for St. Luke`s Hospice, including £290 raised by the Middlewich Support Group with the "Win A Car for £1" raffle.
£250 was also donated to the Community & Youth Project from money raised from tea & coffee sales.

A report will be presented to Middlewich Town Council in September, with a recommendation to stage the event again next year.
